Commercial property area guide: Bristol - England

Office space to rent in Bristol.

This major city in the South West is the 8th largest metropolitan in the UK. It is bordered by Somerset and Gloucestershire and is nearby the cities of Bath and Gloucester.

Although its economy is driven by creative, electronics and aerospace industries today, it was once a major hub for the slave trade, exploration and tobacco trade with colonies across the globe. Its port has now moved to the Severn Estuary at Avonmouth and Royal Portbury Dock, but its harbour is still working with much of the city centred around it. Bristol is one of the only cities in the UK to have a community currency – the Bristol Pound – which encourages people to shop locally.

With a number of art galleries, museums, live music venues and annual festivals, Bristol is a lively city that attracts thousands of visitors each year. A number of restaurants and bars are dotted around the banks of the floating harbour, which give the city a buzzing centre – particularly in the summertime.

Over the years, the architecture in Bristol has evolved, resulting in an eclectic mix of buildings today. You’ll find stately Georgian buildings alongside colourful terraced neighbourhoods and a few modern skyscrapers. You may even spot some of Banksy’s original works on the walls. It is also the home of some of Brunel’s finest engineering achievements, including the Clifton Suspension Bridge and the SS Great Britain. Since the 1980s, Bristol has enjoyed significant regeneration that has restored its former glory and brought many dilapidated areas back to life.
